Arrecife is recovering from severe flooding caused by torrential rains that occurred yesterday afternoon, with around seventy litres of rain per square metre reported. Mayor Yonathan de León thanked local residents, emergency responders, and authorities for their significant assistance in the ongoing clean-up efforts. Over one hundred personnel have been deployed to support affected families and businesses, particularly in areas like Montaña Mina and Zonzama, which experienced extensive mud and water damage.

Several neighbourhoods, particularly Argana Alta, Maneje, and La Vega, have faced substantial flooding, prompting the Mayor to announce plans for a ‘Declaration of Catastrophic Zone.’ This declaration will potentially open avenues for public financial aid to help residents and business owners recover from the extensive material losses, which have included damaged properties, vehicles, and commercial goods.

The Emergency Services, led by local authorities, reported nearly one hundred incidents related to the flooding, affecting not just homes but also public buildings, including the local police station. The local government plans to conduct a thorough assessment of the damages, which will aid in the application process for support from regional and national governments.
