In a significant meeting, the President of the Generalitat Valenciana, Carlos Mazón, officially met with members of SOS Desaparecidos, an association representing over seventy families affected by the devastating floods in October twenty twenty-four. As the five-month anniversary approaches, the families expressed their grief and demanded Mazón’s resignation and a public apology for his management during the crisis that caused two hundred and twenty-seven fatalities.

SOS Desaparecidos has filed a complaint regarding the flood management, and during the two-hour meeting, President Joaquín Amills conveyed the families’ pain and anger. He highlighted the necessity for accountability in understanding the events of that fateful day. According to Amills, Mazón acknowledged the weight of responsibility he carries regarding the crisis.

Mazón characterised the day of the floods as experiencing a ‘perfect storm’ and recognised that everything fell short during the emergency response. In response to the families’ needs, Mazón committed to providing a direct contact line between his office and the families to address their needs and concerns without any obligation.

Amills viewed this initiative as a door opening for better communication but reiterated the families’ demands for accountability remain intact. He emphasised the importance of using this contact opportunity to assist families while they continue to seek answers and justice for their losses.
