Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez is participating in a leaders’ meeting in Paris, convened by French President Emmanuel Macron, to further discuss the ongoing situation in Ukraine and the prospects for peace. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy is also present at the gathering. The aim of the meeting is to establish short-term support for the Ukrainian army and to devise a sustainable model for Ukraine’s armed forces to prevent further Russian invasions.

Macron has expressed the importance of reaffirming explicit commitments to support Ukraine during this gathering. Previous meetings have been held, including one in February in Paris and another in London, aimed at discussing security guarantees and military support from European armies.

The forthcoming meeting will utilise the same format as the one held in February, where Macron hosted several leaders, including those from Germany, the United Kingdom, and Italy. These discussions are crucial in navigating the shifting dynamics in Ukraine and how European positions align in response to actions from the Kremlin.

Sánchez’s attendance in both recent summits in Brussels, where peace expectations in Ukraine were explored, underlines Spain’s active role within the European community while addressing the crisis in Ukraine.
