Gardaí have launched an investigation into an international organised crime gang based in Dublin, resulting in the deployment of officers to Spain. Five men, aged in their thirties, forties, and sixties, were apprehended on Monday under section fifty of the Criminal Justice Act twenty-oh-seven. This coordinated operation involved the National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau alongside armed units.

On Wednesday, gardaí confirmed a sixth man, in his fifties, was also arrested in the Dublin area. The spokesperson highlighted that the operation has received robust support from Europol and the Guardia Civil in Spain, as well as the Operational Network known as ON, funded by the European Commission and led by the Italian anti-mafia investigation directorate.

Assistance has flowed in both directions, with An Garda Síochána sending officers to support the Guardia Civil. This collaborative effort has led to further developments, including the Guardia Civil making six arrests directly related to the ongoing international investigation.

The engagement of multiple law enforcement agencies underscores the commitment to combatting transnational crime and ensures thorough investigation and enforcement actions across borders.
