The Central Operational Unit of the Guardia Civil has notified Supreme Court judge Leopoldo Puente about an investigation involving former Transport Minister José Luis Ábalos. According to reports, Ábalos purchased a property in Colombia for over two million euros in two thousand three. The Guardia Civil has requested access to Ábalos’s bank accounts, as well as a report from the tax office to determine his true wealth.

The investigation highlights that the purchase was allegedly documented in files retrieved from the hard drive of Koldo García, the ex-advisor to Ábalos, connected to the ongoing case. The property was acquired when Ábalos was serving as a councillor for the Socialist Party in Valencia. In a response, Ábalos stated that the information was erroneous and underscored that he had sold the land in two thousand thirteen for a profit.

Further findings from the report suggest that Ábalos is linked to properties in Peru through a foundation called FIADELSO. Despite being dissolved in two thousand twenty-three, his ties and those of his associates reportedly continue. The report asserts that he holds ownership of two properties in Peru, which were intended to serve as educational centers.

In addition to international properties, the investigation reveals various real estate investments in Spain, including multiple properties in Valencia and Madrid, and vehicles associated with him. Ábalos is also implicated in mediating a loan for a personal acquaintance, prompting further scrutiny of his financial dealings during his political career.
