In February, Spain welcomed six point seven million international passengers, marking a six point four percent increase from the same month last year. According to Turespaña, low-cost airlines carried sixty one percent of these arrivals, which reflects a ten percent rise in their market presence. Traditional airlines also saw a slight increase of one point one percent, indicating a diverse choice for travellers. Nearly fifty eight percent of these passengers arrived from other countries within the European Union, with a notable seven percent increase in arrivals from this region.

Italy has emerged as the third-largest source market for international arrivals, exceeding seven hundred thousand passengers in February. This represents a fifteen point two percent rise from the previous year, sustaining its upward trend. Only the United Kingdom and Germany currently send more passengers to Spain. The growth in Italian visitor numbers significantly benefited regions like the Balearic Islands and Valencia, showing over a forty percent increase.

In terms of traditional markets, the United Kingdom accounted for around one point three million passengers in February, contributing to nineteen point three percent of the total international arrivals. This marked an interannual increase of two point nine percent. The Canary Islands and Valencia were among the most favoured destinations for British visitors, with approximately fourteen thousand additional passengers recorded. Germany and France also contributed notable figures, with German arrivals increasing by five point one percent and French arrivals growing by eight point five percent year-on-year.

The data also shows that the Community of Madrid received the highest number of arrivals, close to twenty seven percent of the total. However, the Community of Valencia recorded the greatest percentage growth at eighteen point seven percent. Among airports, Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas led the way with one point seven million passengers, followed closely by Barcelona and Málaga. Notably, Valencia’s airport showed the largest annual increase, with an impressive twenty point three percent rise in international passengers.
