During a key event in Sevilla, Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez stressed the necessity for all regional governments to implement the Housing Law, aimed at providing solutions to housing-related concerns voiced by the public. He underscored that the law works effectively where it is applied and called for a collective effort among the Government, the Junta, and local councils to ensure projects like the delivery of affordable rented homes can materialise.

Sánchez cautioned against complacency, highlighting the risk of a housing bubble if the law is not enacted. Drawing examples from Catalonia, he reiterated that it is essential to avoid a situation where housing remains a privilege for a select few. The Prime Minister reinforced that access to housing should be a fundamental right and committed to advancing this vision.

In addition to his call to action, Sánchez revealed that significant funding has been allocated to support youth housing initiatives and rehabilitation projects. He noted that over 638 million euros have been invested into home rehabilitation across Andalusia, alongside plans to create thousands of new homes in the region, all in support of making housing more accessible for citizens.

Juanma Moreno, President of the Junta de Andalucía, commended the collaborative achievements within administrations, asserting that coordinated efforts accelerate progress towards addressing housing demand. He recognised the urgent need to build new homes while simplifying bureaucratic processes, as the region faces a shortfall in housing availability for its citizens. Moreno pledged that the Junta’s recent urgent measures would lead to the construction of twenty thousand new homes in the coming years.
