The family of thirty-three-year-old Gary Shearer, who disappeared on holiday in Lanzarote two years ago, continues to seek answers regarding his case. His family is growing increasingly concerned that something sinister may have occurred since Gary went missing shortly after his arrival on the sixteenth of March, two thousand twenty-three, to celebrate St Patrick’s Day. This week, they have traveled back to the Spanish island to reignite efforts in finding out what happened to him.

Gary, previously residing in Renfrewshire, Scotland, stopped communicating with his family after sending them a photo by the pool at Oasis Apartments, shortly after arriving. His last known interaction was a message to his mother at approximately five-thirty in the afternoon, stating he was heading to Bar sixty-seven. Later that night, CCTV footage revealed him unconscious in a doorway near the bar. His family began to worry when he failed to check in, and a week later, police acted after he missed his flight home.

Investigators discovered several of his items, including his passport, bank card, travel money, and diabetes medication in his hotel room, while his phone remained missing. In August, CCTV images showing Gary with an unidentified man were released, but the man’s identity was never determined. The case was ultimately closed in June of the following year due to insufficient information, which left the family deeply frustrated.

Ms. Darcie Deeney, Gary’s niece, expressed the family’s despair over the lack of information and their commitment to continue searching for answers. They plan to use their time in Lanzarote to distribute posters and leaflets, hoping to find new leads and encourage authorities to reconsider reopening the investigation. The family believes even a small detail could provide crucial evidence in shedding light on Gary’s mysterious disappearance.
