In a significant development, the patronage of the La Caixa Foundation has confirmed the relocation of its headquarters back to Barcelona, reversing a move made in two thousand seventeen amid political turbulence. This decision also includes the transfer of CriteriaCaixa’s headquarters to the Catalan capital, marking a notable return after seven years of operations from Palma de Mallorca.

The La Caixa Foundation emphasised its dedication to its origins while affirming that its commitment to the Balearic Islands would remain steadfast. CaixaForum Palma continues to play a vital role as a cultural and social centre in the island’s capital.

This relocation echoes similar moves by other financial institutions, including Banco Sabadell, which returned to Catalonia earlier this year. Economic figures, including the president of the Generalitat, Salvador Illa, praised this movement, interpreting it as a reaffirmation of the positive momentum in Catalonia’s political and economic landscape.

The exodus of businesses from Catalonia following the independence referendum in October two thousand seventeen had previously seen over three thousand companies change their official headquarters.
