In January, Spain received a record-breaking total of five point one million international tourists, representing an increase of six point one percent compared to the same month last year. According to data from the National Institute of Statistics, this continued growth in visitor numbers aligns with a substantial rise in tourist spending, which amounted to seven point one billion euros, up eight point nine percent year-on-year.

The United Kingdom was the primary source of visitors, with eight hundred sixty-three thousand two hundred eighty-six tourists, marking a rise of three point six percent from January twenty twenty-four. France followed as the second largest contributor with six hundred forty-one thousand two hundred one tourists, while Germany saw a slight decrease with five hundred thirty-seven thousand eight hundred forty-two visitors.

Spending per tourist in January averaged one thousand four hundred and eight euros, increasing by two point seven percent from the previous year. Notably, tourists from the UK accounted for fifteen point four percent of total spending. Meanwhile, Madrid experienced the highest annual growth in tourist numbers at fifteen point seven percent, closely followed by Catalonia and the Balearic Islands.

This positive trend in Spain’s tourism sector showcases ongoing recovery and resilience, highlighting the importance of international visitors and their rising contributions to the economy.
