Number of victims of gender violence rises to 43 this year
The number of women killed in suspected gender-based violence this year has risen to 43, after the Government confirmed the death of a 52-year-old woman in Madrid.
She was stabbed outside a residential building in the Carabanchel district on Tuesday and later died in hospital.
Her partner is suspected of the killing. Authorities say there had been no previous reports of gender-based violence involving the couple.
The latest figure brings the total number of women killed in gender-based violence since records began in 2003 to 1,384.
More than 70 per cent of the cases recorded so far this year had no previous complaint.
