The Council of Ministers in Baleares has approved a migratory emergency declaration in light of the rising number of migrants arriving by boat in twenty twenty-five. This response aims to enhance humanitarian assistance provided to those seeking refuge. A budget of six million and seven hundred and fifty thousand euros has been allocated to establish the necessary facilities for adequate accommodation and support services. These include translation and interpretation services, medical attention at emergency resources, as well as basic needs such as food, hygiene, and security.

This emergency declaration, promoted by the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security, and Migration, will remain in effect until the end of December twenty twenty-five. It is specifically designed to support individuals arriving in vulnerable situations, ensuring their needs are met appropriately. Notably, this declaration is separate from the contingency declaration concerning minors, which was denied by the government due to non-compliance with criteria.

In response to an over eighty percent increase in the number of arrivals this year, the Secretary of State for Migration issued a resolution last August, emphasising the urgency of meeting these needs. Following patterns observed in twenty twenty-four and the geopolitical situation in the Western Mediterranean, the Ministry has initiated a daily and detailed monitoring of migrants arriving on the archipelago to anticipate potential difficulties in processing mass arrivals.

To strengthen personnel and supplies on the Balearic coast, work continues on infrastructure plans, including the establishment of emergency temporary accommodation units. Two modular facilities for temporary housing of transiting migrants are set to open imminently in the ports of Ibiza and Formentera, with a third facility planned for Palma port. These units will offer security, hygiene, climate control, and dedicated spaces for women and minors.
