In a significant political move, the Spanish government has announced a ban on the entry of Israeli far-right ministers Bezalel Smotrich and Itamar Ben Gvir. This decision is part of a broader array of measures aimed at addressing the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares confirmed that the ban could potentially expand to include other individuals, although Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is not on the list due to existing international legal obligations.

The measures received attention after Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez had previously stated that Spain would take necessary actions against those ‘participating directly in genocide, human rights violations, and war crimes’ in Gaza.
