A group of twenty volunteer firefighters from Mallorca will be dispatched to Castilla y León to assist in extinguishing wildfires that have been affecting the region. The decision to send help comes after the General Directorate of Emergencies received a formal request for assistance from the local community.

The insular councillor for Finance and Public Function, Rafel Bosch, announced the deployment during a presentation detailing the operational readiness of the Milana helicopter. The first contingent of volunteers is expected to leave as soon as Tuesday.

The move highlights the ongoing collaboration between various regional governments in response to the increasing frequency and severity of wildfires in Spain. A meeting to coordinate the support effort will be held on Monday, led by the councillor for Presidency, Coordination of Government Action, and Local Cooperation, Antònia Estarellas.

This initiative underlines the commitment of Mallorca’s firefighters to support their colleagues on the mainland as they work to contain the blazes in León province, ensuring both local and regional resources are utilised effectively in this critical situation.
