A seventy-eight-year-old woman has been discovered dead in Zizur Mayor, Navarra, with a severe head injury, leading authorities to investigate the case as a possible instance of domestic violence. The mayor of Zizur Mayor, Jon Gondán, confirmed the incident, expressing absolute condemnation while urging prudence pending the investigation’s results.
According to reports, the woman’s husband, approximately eighty years old and suffering from Alzheimer’s disease, called emergency services on Tuesday morning to inform them that both he and his wife were dead. When police arrived, they found the man incoherently describing the situation and discovered his wife, bloodied and unresponsive, with signs of having been manipulated post mortem.
The mayor noted that the couple, who had been living in Zizur Mayor for years, also had children residing abroad in Galicia and Luxembourg, who have since been informed. During the initial inspection, investigators located towels and pillows with bloodstains in a nearby bin, raising further concerns about the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death.
Authorities have indicated that if the case is confirmed as a homicide linked to domestic violence, she would be the twenty-third woman killed due to gender-based violence this year, bringing the total to one thousand three hundred and seventeen fatalities since two thousand and three. The local council remains steadfast in its commitment to combat violence against women.
