Residents of Valle de Arriba in the municipality of Santiago del Teide on Tenerife were evacuated from their homes on Monday afternoon following a wildfire outbreak in the Los Partidos de Franquis area of El Tanque. This precautionary measure affects around fifty houses as authorities respond to the situation. The municipal council has established the Tamaimo sports hall as a temporary shelter for those displaced.

Emergency response efforts are extensive, involving two helicopters, three tactical mobility vehicles, and two fire trucks from the Brifor operation. Additionally, the Tenerife Fire Consortium and volunteer firefighters, along with Civil Guard and local police, are assisting in managing the incident. A ground-based firefighting aircraft, an Air Tractor AT-802, has also been deployed, capable of dropping up to three thousand one hundred litres of water and retardant.

This outbreak coincides with a declaration from the General Directorate of Emergencies of the Canary Government, which has issued a state of alert due to an increased risk of fire in the western islands and Gran Canaria, attributed to a brief heatwave. The Cabildo has noted that current meteorological conditions are ‘complicated’, with temperatures around thirty-six degrees Celsius, though the absence of wind is aiding control efforts.

As a preventive measure against extreme forest fire risks, the Cabildo activated level one measures, which ban the use of fire in forest areas and nearby regions. Authorities are urging the public to exercise extreme caution and refrain from any activities that could pose a risk of fire.
