The inquest into the death of Jay Slater has concluded with Coroner Dr James Adeley determining that Slater died from accidental injuries. The coroner stated that Slater fell between twenty and twenty-five metres down a ravine, which caused immediate fatal trauma. Dr Adeley also confirmed that no third parties were involved in the incident.

During the inquest, Slater’s mother, Debbie Duncan, delivered an emotional tribute, expressing that their lives would never be the same without her son. She highlighted Slater’s ambitions and plans, stating he was on the brink of learning to drive and had many dreams ahead of him. The coroner outlined several contributing factors to the incident, including Slater’s lack of training and hydration, as well as being under the influence of substances such as cocaine and ecstasy at the time of his final descent. Dr Adeley specified that these circumstances compromised Slater’s ability to react appropriately to the treacherous terrain he encountered.

The social media interest surrounding Slater’s case was also discussed during the inquest. The coroner addressed Jay’s family, expressing sympathy regarding how these external factors affected their grieving process. As the inquest concludes, the recommendations made will aim to enhance safety measures in such hazardous areas to prevent similar incidents in the future.
