The National Institute of Statistics has reported a significant increase in business formations in the Balearic Islands for May, with new establishments rising by thirty point two percent compared to the same month last year. A total of five hundred and thirteen companies were created, marking the highest figure for May in the region’s historical records.

However, the report also noted a rise in business closures, with eighty-three companies dissolving in May, a fifty point nine percent increase from the previous year. Of these closures, seventy-seven were voluntary, one resulted from a merger, and the remaining five were for other reasons.

The financial capital invested in the creation of these new companies reached approximately eleven point forty-three million euros, which is a one hundred and seventeen point ninety-two percent increase compared to May of the previous year. Additionally, eighty-one companies expanded their capital, with the total amount raised hitting forty-six point sixty-nine million euros, reflecting a seventy point six percent growth year on year.

Overall, the trend of increased business formation is echoed across Spain, with regions such as Castilla-La Mancha, Andalucía, and Murcia leading the way in growth. Notably, Extremadura saw a slight decline in business formations, indicating a diverse picture of business activity across the country.
