The People’s Party (PP) has affirmed its intention to seek parliamentary agreements only if it does not secure an absolute majority in forthcoming elections. Ester Muñoz, the new parliamentary spokesperson for the PP, expressed a desire for a stable and independent government, insisting that there will be no ministers from Vox in this scenario. She highlighted the significance of forming a government capable of undertaking reforms without the internal conflict seen in previous administrations.

Muñoz mentioned historical precedents where leaders such as Felipe González and José María Aznar managed to govern in minority situations, fostering legislative agreements to ensure smooth governance. The goal, she stated, is to avoid past instances of embarrassment within the Council of Ministers and establish a clear, accountable leadership.

Vox, however, has reacted with caution, through spokesperson Pepa Millán, who advised the PP against premature assumptions about upcoming elections, emphasising that current Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez is unlikely to step down voluntarily. Vox perceives the PP’s stance as a potential misstep reminiscent of past mistakes where agreements were made without the public’s electoral mandate.

Lastly, in response to Vox’s recent proposal for mass deportations of illegal migrants, Muñoz firmly stated the PP’s commitment to upholding legal protocols, rejecting both mass deportations and widespread regulations as unviable. This exchange reflects ongoing tensions between the two parties amid an uncertain political landscape in Spain.
