Sumar and the Socialist Party (PSOE) are set to meet on Wednesday at the Congress of Deputies. The meeting follows a request from Sumar amidst the fallout from the corruption scandal involving Santos Cerdán, a former prominent member of the PSOE. The discussions will fall under the commission overseeing the coalition agreement, addressing the crisis triggered by a report linking Cerdán to the Koldo corruption case.

The Socialist delegation will be led by First Vice-President María Jesús Montero, with Sumar represented by Culture Minister and spokesperson Ernest Urtasun. Since the emergence of the Cerdán case, Sumar has been vocal about the need for a ‘reset’ of the legislative agenda, pushing for social regeneration and anti-corruption initiatives.

Sumar aims to implement a 180-degree shift to re-establish trust between the PSOE and themselves, which has been compromised following Cerdán’s alleged involvement in the corruption scandal. Cerdán has been placed in preventive custody without bail as investigations continue.

On Monday, Sumar spokesperson Verónica Martínez Barbero stressed the importance for the PSOE to take decisive actions, signalling to the public and their coalition partners that they are committed to combating corruption effectively.
