The judge Juan Carlos Peinado has requested the Supreme Court to investigate Félix Bolaños, the Minister of the Presidency, Justice, and Relations with the Cortes, for suspected misappropriation and false testimony in the ongoing Begoña Gómez case. During a press conference in the Congress of Deputies, Bolaños asserted his complete tranquillity, declaring that he trusts in the capabilities of the Supreme Court to arrive at a balanced decision.

Bolaños stated that the judge’s accusations contain serious errors and misrepresentations of his witness testimony, particularly relating to the hiring of an advisor for the partner of the Prime Minister. He emphasized that his responses during questioning were thorough and honest, rejecting the assertion that he had stated who nominated the advisor. He urged the public to review the recorded testimony to verify the discrepancies raised by Judge Peinado.

Furthermore, Bolaños defended the legality of the contracts for advisors, noting that it is customary for the partners of government leaders to have assistance with their official duties. He pointed out that many past Presidents of the Government have had multiple assistants to manage their institutional responsibilities, reinforcing the argument that such arrangements are logical and necessary.

In response to the situation, the government has backed Bolaños, claiming his actions were entirely appropriate. The PSOE party has also commented, questioning the lack of disciplinary actions taken against members of the opposing party currently entangled in legal issues. Bolaños remains dedicated to reforming the justice system while the investigation proceeds.
