The Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party is set to expel former Transport Minister José Luis Ábalos on Monday. This action follows the closure of a sanction file after fifteen months, where officials recommended his expulsion as a party member. Sources within the party indicate that this decision will be approved during the upcoming Federal Executive Commission meeting in Ferraz.

Ábalos was previously suspended from the party in February of twenty twenty-four after failing to deliver his parliamentary mandate. He transitioned to the Mixed Group due to his political responsibility linked to the ‘Koldo case’, where he appointed Koldo García as his adviser in the Ministry of Transport.

The expulsion follows a significant leadership shake-up in the PSOE, particularly after the recent resignation of Santos Cerdán as the party’s number three. Cerdán’s departure is connected to alleged improper conduct involving public contracts and illegal commission payments.
