Judge Juan Carlos Peinado has accepted a complaint from the political party Vox against Francisco Martín Aguirre, the Government delegate in Madrid. He is due to appear in front of the judge on the fourteenth of May concerning allegations of misappropriation of public funds. This case is part of a wider investigation into Begoña Gómez, the wife of Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, who is facing accusations of influence peddling and business corruption.

Vox’s complaint maintains that Aguirre played a role in the hiring of Cristina Álvarez, an assistant to Gómez. While Aguirre prepares for his court appearance, he expressed confidence in his innocence and a commitment to cooperate fully with the investigation. He stated that he has fulfilled his duties responsibly and does not feel implicated in the accusations.

As the sixth individual involved in the investigation, Aguirre joins a growing list of suspects connected to the ongoing case, which also includes Gómez, Álvarez, and others affiliated with the University Complutense of Madrid. The judge’s determination to admit the case against Aguirre contrasts with his findings regarding Gómez and Álvarez, where no criminal indications were identified.

The controversy has sparked political debate, with figures such as PP Secretary Miguel Tellado and Minister Félix Bolaños commenting on the situation. On a procedural note, the judge has also requested information from the University Complutense regarding the hiring process of individuals related to Gómez’s academic work, further expanding the scope of the inquiry.
