This event represented sixty percent of the energy consumed at that moment. Government sources have indicated ongoing investigations into the reasons behind this anomaly.

Officials from Red Eléctrica have linked the blackout to major fluctuations in power flow and a substantial drop in generation, which caused disconnection from the European grid. This severe imbalance led the electricity system to collapse, creating a lack of voltage that caused outages in various regions of both Spain and Portugal.

President Pedro Sánchez stated that all potential causes of this unusual incident are still being explored. He confirmed that researchers are yet to ascertain the precise factors leading to the sudden loss of power. Teresa Ribera, the EU’s executive vice president for a clean and just transition, remarked that there is currently no evidence suggesting a sabotage or cyberattack.
