The energy sector has raised concerns regarding Red Eléctrica’s explanations following the nationwide blackout caused by two simultaneous generation outages. President Pedro Sánchez reported that the blackout was triggered by a sudden loss of fifteen megawatts, amounting to sixty percent of the national electricity demand. The incident is under investigation, as sector representatives insist they followed all directives from Red Eléctrica during the crisis.

Sources from the energy sector have stated that they acted in accordance with the instructions provided by Red Eléctrica. Despite the lack of a formal response from the authorities, there are allegations of a ‘witch hunt’ within the sector. According to Iberdrola Spain, all generation plants under their management operated according to the guidelines provided by the system operator at the time of the event.

Government sources have denied any conflict with the energy sector, asserting there is no witch hunt while emphasizing that they are gathering necessary data to understand and prevent future incidents. President Sánchez has initiated immediate discussions with energy companies to facilitate their collaboration in identifying the causes of the blackout and implementing necessary improvements to the system.

As investigations continue, Iberdrola Spain reported that it activated emergency protocols, deploying over nine hundred employees across nearly four hundred generation facilities. Power supply was gradually restored, with reports indicating that service was reinstated at all locations by seven o’clock the following morning. Iberdrola has pledged to cooperate fully with authorities and consider necessary measures based on the findings of the investigations.
