The president of the Generalitat, Carlos Mazón, has written to Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez requesting an urgent meeting to discuss strategies for coordinating reconstruction efforts. This request comes almost six months after devastating weather on the twenty-ninth of October, which affected large parts of Valencia and led to two hundred twenty-eight fatalities. In his public statements, Mazón underscored the necessity for the government to actively participate in the recovery process.

Mazón has expressed concern about the lack of communication with the national government, asserting that it is crucial for there to be direct coordination in order to address the extensive damage caused by the severe weather. He has reiterated the importance of an integrated approach to recovery and urged for the establishment of a mixed commission to ensure that actions are robust and appropriately timed.

In his letter, dated the ninth of April, Mazón suggested that the meeting could take place at the Palau de la Generalitat and offered his availability for it to happen at the Prime Minister’s earliest convenience. He believes that collaborative efforts are key to restoring normality for the citizens affected by the disaster.

In related remarks, opposition leader Alberto Núñez Feijóo accused the Spanish government of failing to allocate any funds for the recovery, claiming that this indicates a lack of commitment to the reconstruction efforts. Additionally, Minister for Science and Universities Diana Morant referred to Mazón’s letter as a diversionary tactic, insisting that the government has been proactive since the beginning of the crisis.
