The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility has set new conditions for the use of free Renfe subscriptions and state bus lines for May and June. Starting from the eighth of April, users can apply for the bi-monthly Renfe subscriptions through traditional channels. The minimum required trips to recover the deposit has been reduced to eight, a significant decrease from the previous sixteen. Users need to make eight total journeys in order to receive their deposit refund.

The deposit amounts remain unchanged, ranging from ten to sixty-five euros depending on the service. Since the introduction of discount policies in September two thousand twenty-two, public transport use has increased significantly. The Ministry aims to launch a new phase beginning July first, focusing on modal choice and the quality and frequency of services.

Sustainable public transport options contribute to reducing traffic congestion, decarbonising the economy, and lowering emissions. Additionally, the new policies promise a more equitable and accessible transport system, with a positive economic impact. For instances, free subscriptions for Cercanías and Rodalies are now available with unlimited travel from May first until June thirtieth of two thousand twenty-five, requiring a ten euro deposit.

In upcoming measures, a unified ticketing system is set to be introduced from July first twenty twenty-five, costing twenty euros per month for all Cercanías zones. There are also provisions for discounts for children under fifteen, special rates for young adults, and incentives for using bicycles as everyday transport. The new legislation, Royal Decree-Law one/twenty twenty-five, aims to enhance the public transport experience and encourage its use in the community.
