During the closure of the PP Interparliamentary meeting in Seville, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, the leader of the Popular Party, strongly criticized Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez. He called on Sánchez to either submit to the Parliament or call for elections, stressing that presenting budgets is a constitutional obligation and should not be avoided. Feijóo warned against the degradation of democracy and demanded transparency on government spending.

Feijóo also took aim at Sánchez’s government for failing to present a defence plan for Spain, labelling it as negligence at a time when European security has become paramount due to the war in Ukraine. He mocked the government’s reluctance to discuss defence spending, asserting the necessity of a comprehensive rearmament strategy.

Additionally, Feijóo denounced Sánchez’s claims regarding the state of the economy, stating that many Spaniards are struggling to make ends meet despite government assertions of growth. He criticized high taxation, claiming that funds are misused on political patronage instead of addressing critical social needs such as dependency support.

As he approaches three years as leader of the Popular Party, Feijóo reaffirmed his commitment to fighting for a government that the public can trust. He urged party members to continue advocating for democracy, suggesting that the current government is ‘broken’ and fearful of its own coalition partners.
