The Sumar organisation is gearing up for a significant leadership renewal at its upcoming assembly on the twenty-eighth and twenty-ninth of March in Madrid. The assembly will mark the end of the interim leadership that has been in place since Yolanda Díaz stepped down from her position after the party faced disappointing results in the latest general elections.

Leading the official candidacy are Lara Hernández, the Secretary of Organisation, and Carlos Martín, the spokesperson for economic matters. Former leader Yolanda Díaz is positioned third on the list and may take on a new role as institutional coordinator and government action officer, pending assembly approval. Hernández highlighted Díaz’s essential leadership role within the coalition.

Additionally, a rival candidacy named ‘Sumando por Baleares’ has emerged, led by Concepción Matarin and Yanko Ivan Morales. The composition of the official list includes prominent figures such as the Minister of Culture, Ernest Urtasun, and the spokesperson in Congress, Verónica Martínez Barbero.

Notably, the list has highlighted the resignation of Elizabeth Duval from her communications role, as she seeks to return to civil activities while maintaining her independence. This reflects broader changes within the party’s leadership structure as it prepares for the upcoming assembly.
