The Civil Protection Directorate has confirmed the issuance of a flood risk alert to six municipalities alongside the Alberche River in Toledo, marking the second time they have received this warning, following the alert sent on the tenth of March. This precautionary measure comes due to the potential increase in river levels caused by natural water inflows and reservoir discharges.

The affected municipalities include Santa Cruz de Retamar, Escalona, Hormigos, El Casar de Escalona, Cardiel de los Montes, and Cazalegas. Local authorities emphasise the importance of public safety and have recommended that residents avoid flood-prone zones and comply with traffic restrictions.

In conjunction with the alert, local government has informed councils of the affected areas and emergency response teams, urging them to monitor vulnerable residents, particularly those with limited mobility. Individuals in flood-prone areas are advised to seek higher ground and to refrain from activities near the river’s banks.

Since the activation of the flood response plan on the eighth of March, authorities have registered one hundred and thirty-three flood-related incidents, mainly in the two hardest-hit provinces. A meeting will take place on Wednesday to reassess the evolving situation and ensure proper measures are in place for community safety.
