The Central Operational Unit of the Civil Guard has notified the Supreme Court that both Google and WhatsApp have agreed to conserve data pertaining to Attorney General Álvaro García Ortiz. This action is connected to an ongoing investigation concerning the potential leakage of confidential information regarding Alberto González Amador, the partner of Isabel Díaz Ayuso, the President of the Community of Madrid.

On the twenty-ninth of January, two thousand twenty-five, WhatsApp responded to the requests made by the UCO, followed by Google on the tenth of March, two thousand twenty-five. Both companies confirmed compliance with the requests to preserve relevant data. The UCO highlighted that they have received a dedicated case number from WhatsApp.

Earlier on the seventeenth of February, the UCO had shared the case number provided by WhatsApp as part of their ongoing investigations. In compliance with a judicial order from the twentieth of January, both companies were directed to preserve data in an effort to recover potential communications linked to García Ortiz’s accounts, after the Civil Guard found no messages on his seized devices.

The investigation revealed that García Ortiz had changed his mobile phone and deleted his personal email account. Subsequently, the UCO requested detailed data from both WhatsApp and Google, including communication logs and backup information to ensure a thorough examination of the potential breach of privacy and misconduct involved in the case.
