José Luis Yzuel, the president of Hostelería de España, has passed away in Zaragoza after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Yzuel, who had been diagnosed with the illness over a year ago, led the organisation since June two thousand seventeen and was known for his commitment to integrating and uniting different entities in the hospitality sector. Under his leadership, he fostered strong relationships with various associations and government bodies.

Many in the industry have expressed their condolences, including the Minister of Industry and Tourism, Jordi Hereu, who described Yzuel as a dedicated entrepreneur who tirelessly worked to enhance the Spanish hospitality landscape. The president of Aragón, Jorge Azcón, recognised Yzuel’s lifelong commitment to the industry, awarding him the Medal of Tourist Merit in two thousand twenty-four.

Yzuel’s contribution to the sector was highlighted by various organisations, including the Confederación Española de la Pequeña y Mediana Empresa, which described him as an advocate for hospitality and a committed business leader. He had also made a significant impact on gastronomic culture in Zaragoza, with many recalling his influence on local cuisines.

Following Yzuel’s passing, the vice-presidents of Hostelería de España will assume interim leadership until scheduled elections on March eighteen, where they will select José Luis Álvarez Almeida as the new president.
