Barcelona is preparing for the highly anticipated Mobile World Congress, taking place from the third to the sixth of March. The event is set to draw in thousands of participants, including executives and exhibitors from around the globe. With a significant influx of visitors, hotel occupancy in the city has surged, reaching a projected ninety-five percent. Basic accommodation options now exceed two hundred euros per night, while luxury hotels are charging close to four thousand euros.

The Mobile World Congress organisers have reserved twenty-one thousand hotel rooms, accounting for more than half of the city’s capacity. An estimated thirty thousand delegates, primarily from Asia and the United States, are expected to attend. Enrique Alcántara, president of the Barcelona Association of Tourist Apartments, notes that tourist accommodations make up forty percent of the city’s offerings, though they constitute only one percent of the total residential park.

Anticipated attendance for the congress is over one hundred one thousand, with a predicted economic impact ranging between five hundred forty million to five hundred fifty million euros for the Barcelona metropolitan area. Notable participants include major corporations such as Deutsche Telekom, Huawei, Google, and Microsoft, along with over two thousand seven hundred exhibitors, combining to create a significant uptick in job opportunities in multiple sectors.

In response to the increased demand, airlines operating from El Prat Airport have expanded their services by nearly ten percent, providing additional flights and accommodating up to one million seven hundred seventeen-thousand four hundred ninety-eight seats through the event. A new Fast Track service at the airport has also been initiated to enhance the passenger experience as the city prepares to welcome its guests for this pivotal technology congress.
