Microsoft has announced it will invest an additional two point nine billion euros into a new data centre in Zaragoza, confirmed by the President of the Government of Aragón, Jorge Azcón. This investment builds upon the previously committed ten billion euros and is expected to create between one thousand and two thousand jobs during the first phase of construction, in addition to three hundred operational roles once the centre is active.

The new facility, which will occupy fifty-nine hectares between the Z-forty and Puerto Venecia, is anticipated to impact the Gross Domestic Product of Aragón by two point six billion euros from twenty twenty-six to twenty thirty. Azcón highlighted the significance of this project, stating it underscores Aragón’s historical moment as a leading hub for technology investments in Europe.

In relation to the overall investment, Microsoft aims to contribute ten billion euros to Spain’s GDP in twenty twenty-five through its cloud ecosystem, which involves around twelve thousand companies. The projected economic impact of Microsoft’s ecosystem in Spain could reach one hundred three billion euros by twenty thirty, along with the creation of approximately one hundred ninety-four thousand jobs in the national technology industry.

Additionally, Microsoft is collaborating with the National Cryptologic Centre and the National Cybersecurity Institute to enhance cybersecurity across the country, particularly focusing on critical infrastructures. Their efforts include sharing global information on potential threats and promoting responsible use of artificial intelligence to bridge the digital skills gap in Spain.
