Call for protection of archaeological quarry near Torrevieja beach

Historian and fine arts doctor Sergio Boj Bri has registered an application with the Generalitat to protect archaeological remains south-west of Los Náufragos beach in Torrevieja. Orihuela adds seven new public defibrillators

Orihuela Council has expanded its municipal network of semiautomatic external defibrillators with seven new outdoor devices. The move is intended to strengthen the resources available for immediate action when someone suffers a cardiac arrest. Four devices are already installed and operational in La Aparecida, Entrenaranjos, Desamparados and the Playa Flamenca promenade. Torrevieja extends deadlines for two port redevelopment projects

Torrevieja Council has approved further extensions to two of the three redevelopment projects under way around the port, beside the new Paseo del Mar leisure centre. The pedestrian esplanade planned for the fairground now has a completion deadline of 22 October. The promenade along the fishing quay and its surroundings is expected to be finished by 15 October. Seven migrants reach busy Santa Pola beach before fleeing

Seven migrants, believed to be Algerian men, have reached Santa Pola del Este beach in Alicante by boat. The vessel, measuring around three metres and fitted with an outboard motor, came ashore at 12.28pm on Sunday, 30 August, while the urban beach was crowded with swimmers. This year’s theme is “Torrevieja and me”, and the contest invites older residents to share their personal connection with the city through photographs of its landscapes, streets, beaches, traditions, everyday places and personal memories. Man injured by falling cornice in Cartagena

A 26-year-old man has been injured after a cornice fell from a building in Cartagena during the early hours of Thursday, 27 August. The incident took place at the building housing the Social Security Centre for Attention and Information, on Calle de la Caridad. Spain’s 112 emergency service attended the man, according to sources consulted by local media. No details about his condition have been reported.
