Spanish Navy detonates Civil War shell off Denia beach

The Spanish Navy has neutralised a Spanish Civil War artillery shell discovered on Albarana beach in Denia, in the province of Alicante. The operation followed the discovery of the device by Guardia Civil divers from the GEAS unit during routine underwater training exercises. Orihuela ended 2025 with a registered population of 88,970 residents, confirming a sustained upward demographic trend. Municipal census figures show year-on-year growth of 3.7 per cent, equivalent to 3,245 new residents, marking a faster pace of increase than in previous years.
