Two suspected boat operators face court after three deaths off Murcia

Two suspected operators of a migrant boat have been brought before a judge after three people were allegedly thrown into the sea off the coast of Murcia. Road deaths rise sharply in Valencia region over summer

The Comunitat Valenciana recorded 25 road deaths during July and August 2026, 12 more than during the same period last year. That represents a 92.3% increase, the largest rise in absolute terms among Spain’s autonomous communities. The Directorate-General for Traffic did not provide a separate figure for Castellón, so the number of deaths on roads in the province is unknown. Cartagena approves grants to fund school air conditioning

Cartagena’s Finance Commission has approved a new grants scheme to help educational centres finance air conditioning. Only two schools across the municipality currently have air conditioning in every classroom. The local government says the grants are an initial response to the lack of climate-control systems in schools. They form part of a municipal plan announced by Mayor Noelia Arroyo this summer, after the end of the last school year.

Torrevieja processes 303 late school admissions during August

Torrevieja’s Education Department processed 303 late school admissions during August, outside the normal application period. Of these, 201 were for nursery and primary pupils and 102 were for pupils attending compulsory secondary education. The council says the admissions were handled at a commission meeting last week, allowing the children to start the academic year on Wednesday alongside other pupils. The Guardia Civil has dismantled an alleged criminal organisation involved in selling drugs in Torrevieja, Alicante, and arrested 14 people. A 79-year-old man has died and an 80-year-old woman has been seriously injured in a single-vehicle crash in Benidorm. The collision happened at around 4.25pm on Sunday at the roundabout where the N-332 exits towards Terra Mítica, near kilometre 145 of the road. Yellow heat warning issued across Valencia province and Alicante coast

Spain’s State Meteorological Agency, Aemet, has issued a yellow heat warning for the whole of Valencia province and Alicante’s coast on Monday 7 September. Torrevieja approves plans for new town-centre Local Police station

Torrevieja’s governing board has approved the basic and construction project for a new Local Police station in the town centre. The facility will be located at 17 Joaquín Chapaprieta Street, between Ramón Gallud and Caballero de Rodas. The work has an estimated completion time of four months and a base budget of €785,105.
