The tourism boom in the Region of Murcia this summer has been reflected strongly in the sector’s employment figures. The region has recorded 1,664 more tourism workers than at the same point last year. The increase follows a summer with record figures for visitors and revenue across hotels, apartments, campsites, rural houses, restaurants, bars, travel operators and other tourism-related businesses. The figures are also affected by the sector’s clearly seasonal nature.

Torrevieja Local Police have seized 155 products suspected of being counterfeit after stopping a vehicle for failing to obey a STOP sign on Sunday afternoon. The traffic offence led officers to inspect the car, where they found four bags containing sports clothing and footwear. Torrevieja Town Council has demanded an immediate, permanent and sufficient increase in state security staff after official figures showed that recorded criminal offences rose from 9,316 in 2024 to 10,089 in 2025. The 8.3% increase is the highest total recorded in the city. The council has highlighted 87 offences against sexual freedom, including 26 sexual assaults involving penetration, which represented a 44.4% increase. Firefighters from the Vega Sur station in Torrevieja have carried out a complex rescue in the Mil Palmeras development, on Orihuela Costa. The operation took place on Friday morning, after medical teams treated a patient who needed urgent evacuation.

Three dead tuna have washed ashore at separate locations in Torrevieja. Municipal services removed the fish from Cala del Palangre, the area around Los Locos beach and near Juan Aparicio promenade on Saturday, 22 August.
