Bob Vylan frontman Pascal Robinson-Foster, known as Bobby Vylan, says he is not regretful about leading a chant at Glastonbury in June and would do it again tomorrow. The chant, calling for “death, death to the IDF”, drew criticism from politicians and commentators at the time.
Speaking on The Louis Theroux Podcast, recorded on 1 October, Vylan addressed whether he stands by the chant and would repeat it. He said he would go on Glastonbury again tomorrow and repeat the line, adding that the backlash has been minimal compared with Palestinian suffering and that he performs for his Palestinian friends and others affected by the conflict. He argued the chant’s significance should not be overstated and that his aim is to support those affected. The BBC’s Executive Complaints Unit later ruled that the broadcaster breached editorial standards in relation to harm and offence. Vylan said BBC staff told him the set was fantastic.
Vylan criticised Damon Albarn for describing the chant as a “spectacular misfire”, calling the remark disappointing and lacking self‑awareness. He said focusing on the wording distracts from the underlying issue—the conditions in Palestine and the call to end oppression. He argued the chant was a vehicle to highlight that issue and noted that race can influence public reactions. He also said Kneecap have faced backlash, and that the dispute around his band’s stance reflects broader tensions in discussing the conflict.
