George Russell won the Singapore Grand Prix after a first-lap clash between McLaren team-mates Norris and Piastri at Turn 3. Norris started two places behind Piastri in fifth and attempted an aggressive pass, with Verstappen also involved. The stewards noted the collision but took no action. Norris sustained only minor damage to his front wing, while Piastri finished behind his team-mate after the incident on the opening lap.

Verstappen finished second and Norris third, with Piastri fourth. Russell led early and crossed the line 5.4 seconds clear of Verstappen; the Dutch driver was 0.6 seconds ahead of Norris, while Piastri trailed a further two seconds behind his team-mate. McLaren clinched the constructors’ championship for the second year in a row on a night of mixed fortunes for the British team. Kimi Antonelli finished fifth, Leclerc sixth and Hamilton seventh after a late braking issue.

Standings in the world championship saw Norris trailing Piastri by 22 points, with Verstappen 63 points off the lead and 174 points still to play for across the remaining rounds. After the race, Norris said of the lap-one contact: “It’s racing. I put it on the inside. Nothing more than good racing.” Piastri, speaking on team radio, said: “Mate, that is not fair. I’m sorry, that is not fair.” The team said they would review the incident after the race. McLaren chief executive Zak Brown said the drivers had performed well all season and that the team would continue to let them race.
