Murder investigation after pensioner dies following hospital assault in west London
A murder investigation has been opened into the death of an 85-year-old man who was allegedly assaulted by a fellow patient at a west London hospital. Andrew Farmer, from Ealing, was injured at Charing Cross Hospital in Hammersmith on 18 September 2025 and died a week later. His partner Paul Wrigley paid tribute, describing him as devoted to their partnership for 60 years and noting his interests in opera, Devon landscapes and social welfare.
Anatoliy Podmazko, 70, of no fixed address, has been charged with grievous bodily harm and is due to appear at Isleworth Crown Court on Friday 17 October 2025. Police said they have maintained regular contact with Mr Farmer’s family and will keep them updated on the progress of the investigation.
Detective Inspector Kirsten Hadleigh said the force is supporting the family and continuing enquiries into the death.
