Officials say US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have agreed on a plan to end the Gaza war, though it is not yet clear if Hamas will accept the terms. Trump set out a 20‑point framework for ending the conflict and establishing a temporary governing body for Gaza, to be chaired by himself and including former British prime minister Tony Blair. The plan would not require residents to leave Gaza and would seek an immediate ceasefire if both sides agree; it also calls for all remaining hostages to be released within 72 hours of Israel accepting the proposal.
Trump told reporters that the United States would back Israel if Hamas rejects the plan, while Netanyahu warned that if Hamas refuses or undermines the process, Israel would carry on with the operation. He suggested the talks were moving toward a deal and said he was confident a deal could be reached soon.
In a related development, Netanyahu apologised to Qatar over a strike on Hamas figures in Doha, a move that drew criticism from Arab governments and some US officials. Qatar condemned the attack as a violation of international law, and Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates voiced support for Doha. The White House described Netanyahu’s call with Qatar’s prime minister as a direct, candid exchange and noted Qatar’s openness to continue contributing to regional security. Within Israel, far‑right national security minister Itamar Ben‑Gvir defended the operation. Earlier, US officials urged both sides to reach a ceasefire and hostage deal, while Palestinian envoy Riyad Mansour said Palestinians were ready to work with Trump and Arab partners to end the war.
