Jaguar Land Rover has said it will restart some manufacturing in the coming days as it continues to recover from a major cyber attack. The group described a controlled, phased restart of its operations after pausing all production earlier in the month following the breach. A company spokesperson said: “As the controlled, phased restart of our operations continues, we are taking further steps towards our recovery and the return to manufacture of our world-class vehicles. Today we are informing colleagues, retailers and suppliers that some sections of our manufacturing operations will resume in the coming days.”

JLR had previously extended the pause to at least 1 October, with sites in Halewood on Merseyside, Solihull in the West Midlands, and the engine manufacturing site in Wolverhampton affected by the outage. Industry analysis suggests the disruption could shave around £120 million from the group’s bottom line, while the firm is usually able to build about 1,000 cars a day.

The delay has left suppliers awaiting payments, and the government has announced a £1.5 billion loan guarantee to underpin supplier payments and give the supply chain some certainty. JLR’s UK supply chain employs around 120,000 people. Ministers have been in daily contact with the company and cyber experts as it works to restart production.
