Business Secretary Peter Kyle will travel to Jaguar Land Rover to meet firms in its supply chain as the carmaker extends a shutdown following a cyber attack. JLR has paused production and extended the halt to 1 October, affecting suppliers across the sector.\n\nIndustry Minister Chris McDonald said the government has two priorities: restoring production at JLR as soon as possible and safeguarding the long‑term health of the supply chain. He added that the delegation would hear from companies and workers at JLR about how the government can assist in restarting operations.\n\nUnite and other MPs have called for furlough‑style support for workers in the JLR supply chain, while some have proposed Covid‑style loans for firms employing around 200,000 people. A scheme akin to CBILS for automotive firms has been suggested. JLR is currently leading support for its own supply chain rather than awaiting state assistance. The cyber attack struck on 31 August, with production paused until at least 1 October. A JLR spokesman said the company is providing clarity for the coming week as it plans a phased restart and continues its investigation, with teams working alongside cybersecurity specialists, the National Cyber Security Centre and law enforcement.
