Actor Neil Morrissey will headline Mark Gatiss’s stage adaptation A Christmas Carol: A Ghost Story, set to run at London’s Alexandra Palace this winter. He will play Jacob Marley as the production returns to the venue for a third season, running from 21 November 2025 to 4 January 2026. Morrissey, known for Waterloo Road and Line of Duty, joins Matthew Cottle of The Windsors as Scrooge.

Based on Charles Dickens’s 1843 novel, Gatiss’s A Christmas Carol: A Ghost Story reimagines the Dickens classic for the stage. Producers describe the experience as a blend of fright and wonder in a supernatural Victorian world. Gatiss said: “I’m delighted that our Carol is returning once more to the Pally. I’m thrilled to welcome Neil Morrissey into this very happy Christmas family. God bless us. Every one.” Morrissey added: “I am thrilled to be taking on the role of Jacob Marley in Mark Gatiss’s fantastic adaptation of this evergreen Dickens classic. A real spooky treat for Christmas, and even better at the wonderful Alexandra Palace which is my local theatre.”

The production originally premiered at Nottingham Playhouse in 2021 before transferring to Alexandra Palace. A filmed version was released in UK cinemas in 2022, and the show returned to both Nottingham Playhouse and Alexandra Palace in 2023, followed by a season at Birmingham Repertory Theatre last Christmas.
