Ronnie O’Sullivan withdraws from Unibet British Open for medical reasons
Ronnie O’Sullivan, 49, has withdrawn from the Unibet British Open for medical reasons. The World Snooker Tour said he was due to play Sanderson Lam in the opening round on Monday 22 September at 19:00, but he has been pulled from the draw. The match would have been Lam against O’Sullivan at Cheltenham Racecourse, where the event runs from 22 to 28 September.
O’Sullivan has not played since the Saudi Arabia Masters in mid-August and is also absent from this week’s English Open. Daniel Womersley, the highest-ranked player from the 2025 Q School list, has been added to the draw in place of O’Sullivan.
The World Snooker Tour confirmed that the exact nature of the medical condition is not disclosed. On Monday, O’Sullivan posted a video of himself performing strenuous exercises, with the Instagram caption: “Exercise is so important to me. Not just for the body, but for my mindset too.”
