Britain’s rail security slogan See it. Say it. Sorted. is being refreshed for the first time since its 2016 introduction. From Tuesday, passengers will hear updated announcements and see new posters, the Department for Transport said. A range of new audible messages has been created to add variety in response to public feedback, and there will be greater emphasis on the 61016 texting number for reporting concerns to the British Transport Police.

The wording of the slogan and the frequency of its broadcast on trains and at stations will remain unchanged. Some passengers report that it has become worn from over-familiar repetition, and others interpret the ending as a directive to ‘Sort It’ rather than a reassurance that issues will be sorted.

The Department for Transport says the campaign has become a cultural phenomenon, entering everyday language and even inspiring a musical. The refresh will help passengers spot when something looks off, with examples such as an unattended bag or a person entering a restricted area. Announcements have been updated and posters now show the 61016 number more clearly. The government is providing nearly £17 million (€19.6 million) to Network Rail to improve police access to CCTV at stations, enabling real-time footage for officers. The annual number of messages to 61016 has risen eight-fold to 255,088 since the initiative began. Rail Minister Lord Hendy said the slogan is an important safety campaign and the refresh will extend its reach. British Transport Police Chief Constable Lucy D’Orsi said officers are active across the network and that 61016 offers a simple, discreet way to report crime. More than one million texts have been sent to 61016 since its introduction in 2013.
