Former world boxing champion Ricky Hatton has died at the age of 46. He was found at his home on Bowlacre Road, Hyde, Tameside, Greater Manchester, police said. Officers were called to the scene at about 06:45 local time and found Hatton’s body. There are no suspicious circumstances, police added.

Hatton held world titles at light-welterweight and welterweight and became one of boxing’s most popular figures in the early 2000s. He fought leading opponents including Kostya Tszyu, Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao. After retirement, he spoke openly about mental health challenges and later built a career as a trainer, guiding Zhanat Zhakiyanov to a bantamweight world title in 2017.

Hatton had announced in July that he planned a return to boxing in December, with a professional bout scheduled in Dubai against Eisa Al Dah. Organisers of the World Boxing Championships in Liverpool said they would pay tribute to Hatton midway through the final session with a short announcement and the traditional 10-bells salute.
