England rout Serbia 5-0 to move closer to World Cup qualification
England beat Serbia 5-0 in Belgrade, moving eight points clear in Group K and edging closer to World Cup qualification. Harry Kane opened the scoring, with Noni Madueke, Ezri Konsa, Marc Guehi and Marcus Rashford adding the others. The display has been described as England’s best under coach Thomas Tuchel so far, as the hosts were subdued by a disciplined performance.
Kane earned his 109th England cap and his 74th international goal with a header from Declan Rice’s corner. With five goals in six games under Tuchel, he looks set to lead England’s attack at the World Cup.
Serbia’s crowd caused disruption before and during the match. A laser pointer was directed at Konsa, prompting a stoppage, and riot police were deployed later to restore order. Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers started in the number 10 role and helped England move the ball forward, setting up Madueke’s goal; Madueke, Konsa and Guehi also scored their first England goals on the night.
