Comedian Joel Dommett will host the National Television Awards for a fifth consecutive year. He described the NTAs as the best night in talent and said the shortlist features a batch of huge programmes. He told reporters the nominations are the strongest since he began hosting and that the winner will be decided by what viewers at home prefer, not by a panel.

Adolescence is among the main contenders. Owen Cooper and Stephen Graham, who play on-screen father and son, will compete for the drama performance prize. The Netflix drama about a teenager arrested for murder is also in the running for the new drama prize.

Other nominations include Michael McIntyre in multiple categories, including the Bruce Forsyth Entertainment Award, where he faces The Graham Norton Show, The Masked Singer and Would I Lie to You? The Wheel is shortlisted for the quiz show prize, alongside Richard Osman’s House Of Games, The 1% Club and The Chase. Gary Lineker is on the best TV presenter shortlist, with Ant & Dec continuing their long-run presence. Alison Hammond, Claudia Winkleman and Stacey Solomon are among other presenter nominees. Gavin & Stacey’s Christmas special is among the comedy contenders, up against Mrs Brown’s Boys, Brassic and Michael McIntyre’s 25th Year Stand-Up. In factual entertainment, There is Only One Rob Burrow, Strictly Amy: Cancer And Me, Molly-Mae: Behind It All and Boyzone: No Matter What feature, alongside Stacey & Joe, Clarkson’s Farm, Gogglebox and The Martin Lewis Money Show Live. The Great Pottery Throw Down earns a first nomination in the talent show category, with competition from Strictly Come Dancing, The Voice UK, Britain’s Got Talent and The Great British Bake Off. The NTAs will be broadcast live on ITV1 and ITVX from 8pm.
